The New Forest is the largest area of lowland heath in Britain. The 30 walks described in this book take in a variety of terrain, from open heathland to ancient woodland. Where possible the walks are circular and start from a car park. They vary from short strolls to long hikes and are graded according to distance and difficulty, making it easier to select an appropriate route. The walks are illustrated with maps and supported by step-by-step route instructions, designed with the practical needs of the walker in mind. A brief history of the New Forest is given, with notes on geology, wildlife and the Country Code.
