This work considers the pictorial representation of the seaside during the nineteenth century. From the romantic role - focusing on the evocation of the sublime force of nature, to the holidaymaker in all their relaxed glory. House also explores how the Impressionists used a new approach to painting to capture the effects of weather and light on the coastline.
