Worth every penny for those interested in the '45. -- Rennie McOwen Scholarly, of course, this book has some great action writing too. This book enables us to see one of the key figures of the Forty-Five in the round. John Gibson has obeyed Shakespeare's maxim on biography: "Beat not the bones of the buried; while he lived he was a man". -- Rosalind Mitchison Publisher and author are to be congratulated on producing this original, scholarly and readable book ! This account of "the hero of the '45" deserves to become a key text. A splendid book ! Carefully researched and elegantly written. -- Trevor Royle Worth every penny for those interested in the '45.
