Mandy and James discover that Simon's friend, Michelle Holmes's programme Wildlife Ways is about to be broadcast on television. Michelle is keen to work again with Mandy and James after the success of the hedgehog watch (in Hedgehogs in the Hall). Together the three of them follow three sets of animals in the wild, a fox cub, two badger cubs and a fawn. The book is divided into these three stories: Foxes on the Farm, Badgers by the Bridge and Deer on the Drive.
