Summary
Childress fourth novel tells of Peejoe and his Aunt, Lucille. Death has always been a family business - Peejoe's grandfather was a gravedigger and his uncle runs a funeral home - but one summer Peejoe discovers that even after death, it isn't safe to treat black people the same way as whites.
