Shankhill Butchers: A Case Study of Mass Murder by Martin Dillon

This book by the author of "Rogue Warrior of the SAS", retells the story of a series of murders by the Ulster Volunteer Force in N. Ireland in the 1970s. When convicted, the killers received over 2000 years in jail, the longest sentences ever given in a single trial in British legal history The murders began in 1966 when when several members of the UVF declared war on the IRA. Often, however, they killed Irish Catholics with no IRA connections at all. The ringleader of this group was Lennie Murphy, who was responsible for "Bloody Sunday" amongst other killings. He himself was murdered by the IRA in November 1982. The author of this work is a native of Belfast and at this moment works as a journalist for the Belfast Telegraph.
