Philosophy of Religion Summary

Philosophy of Religion: Selected Readings by Michael L. Peterson

Philosophy of Religion: Selected Readings contains articles by both classical and contemporary authors in the philosophy of religion. The articles cover the standard topics in the field, including religious experience, theistic arguments, the problems of evil, and miracles, as well as the topics that have gained the attention of philosophers of religion recently, such as reformed epistemology, the philosophical analysis of theological doctrine, and teh kalam cosmological argument. The collection also includes topics seldom covered in available texts, such as religious and science, religious pluarism, process theism, and religious ethics. The volume is organized into thirteen thematic sections. Each begins with an introduction - revised for this edition - to the central topic and ends with updated suggested further readings. Included in the works new to the second edition are selections from John Locke, Moses Maimonides, the Upanishads, Lao Tsu, The Dalai Lama, Stephen Jay Gould, Richaed Dawkins, Sarah Coakley, Anthony Flew, and George Mavrodes. The anthology works well as a stand-alone source for courses in the philosophy of religion; it is also an ideal companion to the editors' textbook, Reason and Religious Belief, Second Edition (OUP, 1998) because the books have a common topical structure.
