Shortlisted for the Earthworm Award 1995 (infant category), this story is set in Africa, and features a small girl and her grandfather who, on a walk hear a sound. They discover a baby elephant crying out for its dead mother. Jemima comes to understand that hunting elephants is cruel and futile.
