Literacy is a prime objective of our educational system, and the National Curriculum both requires and will encourage high and rising standards of reading. This book focuses on the many challenges faced by junior school teachers, including the identification and improvement of reading standards. To face these challenges they need both an understanding of the reading process and an awareness of possible responses to the challenge. The book also suggests how teachers can enhance children's involvement, enjoyment and attainments in reading.
