This edition not only helps the reader to discover whether it was a woodpecker or a grouse, a red or fallow deer, but also whether it was walking, trotting, running or jumping. Then there are signs so subtle that they could easily go unnoticed - a hazlenut gnawed in one way, for example, shows it has been eaten by a wood mouse, whereas a bank vole will leave quite a different mark.
