When Football Was Football: Birmingham City by Ralph Ellis

The first English club to become a limited company three years after turning professional in 1885, they've been at their current St Andrew's home since 1906. This book celebrates the unique history of a club where the one thing that has never been in short supply is the passion of its fans. When Football was Football: Birmingham follows the highs and lows of a century of drama, remembers the players, managers, and back room staff, and most of all the thousands of Bluenoses who have shared the adventure as they Kept Right on to the End of the Road ...

The nostalgic magic of the Daily Mirror's outstanding photographic archive and the wealth of publishing experience of Haynes Publishing come together to create an enchanting book which continues the successful 'When Football Was Football' series. Wonderful and often iconic photographs, and newspaper cuttings from the last century, combine to recapture the highs and the lows of life at St Andrew's. It includes rare pictures of the FA Cup Finals of 1931 and 1956, images of the club's pioneering trips into European Football in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in the 1950s, and behind the scenes shots of iconic 1970s stars. With a foreward by arguably the club's greatest player Trevor Francis, the book has been written and researched by one of Fleet Street's most experienced football reporters.
