Modern House Three Summary

Modern House Three by Raul A. Barreneche

Modern House 3 is an overview of the most innovative houses built around the world in recent years, following the highly successful publication of Phaidon's Modern House (1993) and Modern House 2 (2000). This book presents 33 houses in 15 countries, by both distinguished architects and up-and-coming young designers, including David Adjaye (London), Tadao Ando (Japan), Shigeru Ban (Japan), Carlos Ferrater (Spain), Sean Godsell (Australia), Kengo Kuma (China), Richard Meier (United States), and Julie Snow (Canada), among others

Modern House Three Reviews

"The beautiful images in this book allow you a little step into [the] world of your fantasy house while the 'hows' and 'whys' of each project give an insight into the thinking behind some of the most interesting concepts in modern architecture."-New Design

"Informative and attractive."-Grand Design

"Each house is beautifully photographed from every angle, with accompanying architectural plans to give you a real sense of the layout and aspect of each of these dream spaces. We may never live in - or even visit - any of these incredible structures, but with a book like this, at least we can imagine."-City Living

"An insightful, handsomely designed coffee-table tome."-The Architect's Newspaper

"For a big old coffee-table book, Modern House Three is an unlikely advocate for the small-and-smart approach to design. But there it is on glossy page, after page: stunning architecture that isn't about exotic wood paneling or stadium-size boudoirs. Instead we're treated to contemporary houses displaying intelligent design. Written with brisk but knowing informality by Raul Barreneche, Modern House Three shows 33 houses in 15 countries to their best advantage. The ideas on display here are often defiantly original and rarely depend on big-buck gestures."-Architectural Record

"One can't help but be impressed by the collection's variety and inventiveness."-Interior Design

"Whether you are planning to build a contemporary-style home or are simply intrigued by the extraordinary innovation of domestic architecture today, Modern House Three, by Raul A. Barrenche, offers a brilliant survey of the best of the best. Third in a series initiated in 1993, the current volume offers stunning photographs and elegant descriptions of 33 houses in 15 countries... The variety and inventiveness exhibited in this book is extraordinary."

"Looking for the pulse of architectural innovation, a modernist primer or a dream home catalog? It has arrived."-Florida InsideOut

"A handsome collection of stellar contemporary homes found around the globe."-Variety's VLife Magazine
