150 Crochet Blocks: Charts, Instructions, Tools & Techniques by Sarah Hazell

Some crochet blocks are undeniable classics that will always have a special place in a crocheter's heart. This book brings all the best block patterns together in one gorgeous collection. Each block is flagged by skill level, accompanied by a short description focusing on its special features and characteristics. For the more experienced crocheter, the chosen yarn palette will remind you of why you fell in love with each block in the first place or, for those new to the craft, it could be the start of a new love affair.

150 Crochet Blocks Reviews

This is a great reference book for those of us that enjoy using crochet blocks to make larger projects. The popularity of crochet blocks is easy to understand; by making a larger project in smaller segments, the project instantly becomes much more portable, meaning you can continue to work on your project when you're out and about.
Then there's the colour aspect of using crochet blocks and how through colour you can create impact and give your project that 'wow' factor. If you search the hashtag 'crochet' on Instagram or Pinterest for example, you'll find a wealth of incredible projects people make with crochet blocks.
The blocks in Sarah's book have been separated into eight different sections including Traditional and Textured to the more complicated ones found under the Special Techniques heading.
A display section at the beginning of the book, where all the blocks have been made and photographed, helps when deciding which to use for your latest project. The blocks are shown in proportion to each other, which gives you an idea of scale and allows you to consider more design options.
The pattern for each crochet block includes both the written and the charted instructions. For the more complicated blocks, instructions for 'special stitches' have also been included. In addition, Sarah has attached a skill level to each block, which gives you a rough idea of its difficulty.
If you need to refresh your crochet skills, there's a handy techniques section at the back of the book, containing diagrams, symbols and abbreviations. This makes reading the instructions and charts easier.
Almost by way of a 'surprise bonus', Sarah has included five projects to inspire you to use your crochet blocks in ways other than the traditional blanket. We're particularly fond of the Vase Cover, which would look good in anyone's home, and the Journal Cover, which is a great way to turn something rather ordinary, into something rather special.

Wow! What an amazing amount of designs and what a varied use of stitches and colours! In this book you will find 150 blocks that are completely different from the next. With a use of different designs, stitches & colours. You can use the blocks to create the most amazing items. If you don't want to design your own with the blocks there are projects near the back of the book. You can use the blocks to make a fantastic floor cushion, vase cover, journal cover, baby block & lap blanket. At the very back of the book is a refresher course of how to crochet the different stitches. Each step of the instructions has a picture to make it easier to understand. Each block in the book has written instructions as well as charts. The complexity of the designs varies so every level of crocheter can make multiple different designs. I love the fact you can make each project so different by using different blocks, size of hooks and yarn. What ever look you are wanting to create you are sure to find multiple blocks to match what you want. If you love to crochet squares you are sure to love this amazing book!
