Pupils are encouraged to "discover" the rules of spelling through humorous cartoon strips integrating text and pictures. Spelling is linked to language awareness and grammatical knowledge. Pupils learn something of the history of language and word derivations, using prefixes, suffixes and root words. A variety of learning strategies for tricky words is introduced.
