Wendy Jelbert shows how to combine the fine, crisp marks of penwork with the soft, luminous washes of watercolour and inks to create some wonderfully atmospheric paintings. She demonstrates the different effects that result from using waterproof or water-soluble inks, using both brush and pen.
Line and wash painting has been somewhat neglected in recent years but is now becoming increasingly popular. In this book, artist Wendy Jelbert shows how to combine the fine, crisp marks of penwork with the soft, luminous washes of watercolour and inks to create some wonderfully atmospheric paintings. She demonstrates the different effects that result from using waterproof or water-soluble inks, and shows how vivid, colourful inks can be applied with a brush as well as a pen. Simple exercises show how to add texture and detail in landscapes, delicate linework in flower paintings, or strong delineation to paintings of buildings. Other subjects covered include trees, water and boats, still life and people, and there are also several full step-by-step demonstrations.
Wendy Jelbert is a well-known painter who runs very popular workshops and courses. She writes regularly for Leisure Painter magazine, is author of nine books on painting, and has produced four instructional art videos. This is Wendy's first book for HarperCollins.
