Yeats was the son of portrait painter John Butler Yeats and younger brother of the poet William Butler Yeats. He spent his childhood in Sligo, which remained a permanent source of inspiration for his painting. He studied art in London and soon earned a high reputation for pen and ink drawings in magazines. In 1910, after a period in Devon, he settled in Dublin where he devoted himself to painting in oils. Yeats was closely connected to the literary personalities of his day; John Masefield and J. M. Synge became his close friends. In the 1930s and '40s he published novels and plays which won the admiration of James Joyce and Samuel Beckett. His paintings have been exhibited in many major galleries, and continue to be exhibited thirty years after his death.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49516403851537,"sku":"GOR001927412","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0233984623.jpg?v=1751290804"},{"product_id":"red-headed-rebel-book-hilary-pyle-9780952845379","title":"Red-headed Rebel","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49644824625425,"sku":"GOR002680940","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0952845377.jpg?v=1751266190"},{"product_id":"cesca-s-diary-1913-1916-where-art-and-nationalism-meet-book-hilary-pyle-9780953429370","title":"Cesca's Diary 1913 - 1916: Where Art and Nationalism Meet","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49665647870225,"sku":"GOR002891950","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0953429377.jpg?v=1751397552"},{"product_id":"jack-b-yeats-in-the-national-gallery-of-ireland-book-hilary-pyle-9780903162296","title":"Jack B.Yeats in the National Gallery of Ireland","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49725520445713,"sku":"GOR003782192","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0903162296.jpg?v=1750948376"},{"product_id":"yeats-book-hilary-pyle-9780903162937","title":"Yeats","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49861812257041,"sku":"GOR003428857","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50516133183761,"sku":"GOR013982237","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50694112149777,"sku":"GOR003603516","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":53580266340625,"sku":"CIN0903162938VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0903162938.jpg?v=1751108765"},{"product_id":"jack-b-yeats-book-hilary-pyle-9780233984612","title":"Jack B.Yeats","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50308175855889,"sku":"GOR009169333","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0233984615.jpg?v=1751164853"},{"product_id":"sligo-leitrim-world-of-kate-cullen-1832-1913-book-hilary-pyle-9780952845324","title":"The Sligo-Leitrim World of Kate Cullen 1832-1913","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50325992472849,"sku":"GOR002707369","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0952845326.jpg?v=1751171790"},{"product_id":"deborah-brown-book-hilary-pyle-9781851829699","title":"Deborah Brown","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50701047726353,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50701048250641,"sku":"GOR002491892","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1851829695.jpg?v=1751412145"},{"product_id":"yeats-book-hilary-pyle-9781858940403","title":"Yeats","description":"The first combined account of the creative brilliance of three generations of the Yeats family, from John Butler Yeats, through his children W.B., Lily, Lolly and Jack B., to W.B.'s daughter Anne.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51449534382353,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":51449534710033,"sku":"GOR003462384","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53136482631953,"sku":"GOR014767446","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1858940400.jpg?v=1750834104"},{"product_id":"james-stephens-book-hilary-pyle-9781041300335","title":"James Stephens","description":"First published in 1965, James Stephens: His Work and an Account of His Life offers an intimate portrait of Stephens, tracing his journey from the vibrant streets of Dublin to the bustling literary circles of London. Through two distinct parts, Pyle explores Stephens' evolution as a writer and thinker. In Part I, the book delves into his formative years in Dublin (1880–1925), examining his youthful inspirations, early writings, and the profound influence of William Blake and Theosophy on his work. It also highlights Stephens' passionate engagement with Irish nationalism, the Irish language, and his contributions to Irish epic literature.  Part II shifts to Stephens' later years in London (1925–1950), where his philosophical musings deepened, his poetry matured, and his voice resonated through lectures in America and broadcasts back home. Pyle captures the essence of Stephens' final philosophy, his creative endeavors, and his enduring impact on Irish and international literature. This book is an essential resource for anyone seeking to understand the life, work, and legacy of James Stephens.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":53104396435729,"sku":"NGR9781041300335","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53360347021585,"sku":"NLS9781041300335","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781041300335.jpg?v=1773222653"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-au\/collections\/author-books-by-hilary-pyle.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
