For nearly two decades, global attention has been given to education as a human right through global initiatives such as Education for All (EFA) and the Salamanca Statement. Yet according to UNESCO, reaching the goals of EFA remains one of the most daunting challenges facing the global community. Today, millions of the world’s disabled children cannot obtain a basic childhood education, particularly in countries with limited resources. Even in the wealthiest countries, many disabled children and youth are educationally segregated from the nondisabled, particularly if they are labeled with significant cognitive impairment. International agencies such as the United Nations and the World Bank have generated funds for educational development but, unfortunately, these funds are administered with the assumption that «west is best», thereby urging developing countries to mimic educational policies in the United States and the United Kingdom in order to prove their aid-worthiness. This «McDonaldization» of education reproduces the labeling, resource allocation, and social dynamics long criticized in disability studies. The authors in this volume explore these subjects and other complexities of disability and the politics of education. In doing so, they demonstrate the importance and usefulness of international perspectives and comparative approaches.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49612100043025,"sku":"GOR010531874","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50372512579857,"sku":"CIN0820488941G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52451896721681,"sku":"NLS9780820488943","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0820488941.jpg?v=1751170013"},{"product_id":"disability-studies-in-education-book-susan-l-gabel-9780820455495","title":"Disability Studies in Education","description":"As a field of inquiry, disability studies in education stands at the broad intersection of disability studies and educational studies. This book introduces graduate students, educational researchers, and teacher educators to the range of scholarly inquiry emerging from this exciting new field. Susan L. Gabel pulls together a sampling of the vast array of available scholarship that includes readings that intersect curriculum theory, critical policy analysis, personal narrative, and much more. Although disability studies in education has only recently been recognized as a field of inquiry with an identifiable body of literature, the chapters in this book present the work of some of the major scholars of disability studies in education.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":50476365709585,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50476366725393,"sku":"CIN0820455490G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52452304060689,"sku":"NLS9780820455495","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0820455490.jpg?v=1751170010"},{"product_id":"constructing-the-m-other-book-priya-lalvani-9781433169748","title":"Constructing the (M)other","description":"Constructing the (M)other is a collection of personal narratives about motherhood in the context of a society in which disability holds a stigmatized position.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51322551664913,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51322554974481,"sku":"CIN1433169746G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":52085183938833,"sku":"NGR9781433169748","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52453834195217,"sku":"NLS9781433169748","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1433169746.jpg?v=1751305750"},{"product_id":"disrupting-schools-book-rod-kippax-9781433162312","title":"Disrupting Schools","description":"Disrupting Schools: The Institutional Conditions of Disordered Behaviour conceptualises how institutional conditions operating within teacher-student interactions ensure the substitution of reflexive understanding for a symbolic violence that systemically underwrites both critical incidents and exclusion.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52136238907665,"sku":"NLS9781433162312","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433162312.jpg?v=1757553421"},{"product_id":"constructing-the-m-other-book-priya-lalvani-9781433169731","title":"Constructing the (M)other","description":"Constructing the (M)other is a collection of personal narratives about motherhood in the context of a society in which disability holds a stigmatized position.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52409698844945,"sku":"NLS9781433169731","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433169731.jpg?v=1758775714"},{"product_id":"disrupting-schools-book-rod-kippax-9781433162305","title":"Disrupting Schools","description":"Disrupting Schools: The Institutional Conditions of Disordered Behaviour conceptualises how institutional conditions operating within teacher-student interactions ensure the substitution of reflexive understanding for a symbolic violence that systemically underwrites both critical incidents and exclusion.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52410975813905,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52410975912209,"sku":"NLS9781433162305","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433162305.jpg?v=1758780873"},{"product_id":"relational-and-responsive-inclusion-book-mere-berryman-9781433128509","title":"Relational and Responsive Inclusion","description":"Socially unjust circumstances continue to perpetuate inadequate classroom, school and system-level responses to longstanding social justice imperatives, shutting out power-sharing solutions to educational disparities and marginalizing populations of Indigenous and minoritized peoples. To address these educational disparities, this book proposes a relational and culturally responsive framework, from within a critical and indigenous paradigm that is designed to foster one's sense of becoming and belonging in the world with all people, and thus promotes inclusion. Praxis such as this challenges traditional paradigms that marginalize or dehumanize those with whom we seek to work. Social justice in education must be concerned with recognizing, respecting and being inclusive of the diversity of all students. Social justice is about valuing and including all children for the potential they arrive with and for the families that stand beside them, rather than on what we might aspire to change and mold them into being.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52685107986705,"sku":"NLS9781433128509","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781433128509.jpg?v=1762324717"},{"product_id":"disability-and-the-politics-of-education-book-susan-l-gabel-9780820488950","title":"Disability and the Politics of Education","description":"Disability and the Politics of Education: An International Reader is a rich resource that deals comprehensively with the many aspects of the complex topic of disability studies in education.
