Es war ja eine nach dem damaligen Stande der Wissenschaft allgemein feststehende Tatsache, da  Teilst cke von Pflanzen eine neue Pflanze erzeugen k nnten, Teilst cke von Tieren aber zugrunde gehen m  ten. Es ergab sich nun, da  aus jedem Teilst ck eines in zwei St cke geschnittenen Polypen ein neuer Polyp entstand. Logischerweise h tte Trembley nun den neuen Organismus als eine Pflanze ansprechen m ssen; aber aus anderen Beobachtungen, - aus der Art der Nahrungsaufnahme und der Bewegung - ergab sich mit unfehlbarer Sicherheit, da  es sich um einen tierischen Organismus handle. Den Grundstock zu dem vorliegenden Werke bilden f nf Vortr ge, die ich im Januar 1900  ber Regeneration und experimentelle Entwicklungsgeschichte an der Columbia-Universit t zu New York gehalten habe. Die in diesen Vortr gen besprochenen Probleme sind weiter ausgebaut und der Text durch zahlreiche weitere Beispiele vermehrt worden.\\ Dieses Buch  ber die Regeneration ist ein unver nderter Nachdruck der Originalausgabe von 1907. Um nun zu sehen, ob es tierische oder pflanzliche Organismen w ren, schnitt er einige derselben in St cke. Es war ja eine nach dem damaligen Stande der Wissenschaft allgemein feststehende Tatsache, da  Teilst cke von Pflanzen eine neue Pflanze erzeugen k nnten, Teilst cke von Tieren aber zugrunde gehen m  ten. Es ergab sich nun, da  aus jedem Teilst ck eines in zwei St cke geschnittenen Polypen ein neuer Polyp entstand. Logischerweise h tte Trembley nun den neuen Organismus als eine Pflanze ansprechen m ssen; aber aus anderen Beobachtungen, - aus der Art der Nahrungsaufnahme und der Bewegung - ergab sich mit unfehlbarer Sicherheit, da  es sich um einen tierischen Organismus handle. Den Grundstock zu dem vorliegenden Werke bilden f nf Vortr ge, die ich im Januar 1900  ber Regeneration und experimentelle Entwicklungsgeschichte an der Columbia-Universit t zu New York gehalten habe. Die in diesen Vortr gen besprochenen Probleme sind weiter ausgebaut und der Text durch zahlreiche weitere Beispiele vermehrt worden.\\ Dieses Buch  ber die Regeneration ist ein unver nderter Nachdruck der Originalausgabe von 1907.
