I wanted to create the type of book that I wanted to read, which is a great mixture of FBI thrillers fiction, where every character is hunting for diamonds, but also dealing with internal struggles, setting the story in a fictionalized version of Spokane, Wa.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI also thought that having a local mafia, run by a crime boss named Irish Pete, would bring a certain interest to the story. This is about various members of the underworld fighting to grab hold of a bag of wealth, in the form of diamonds. Too often, when you have a police chase or detective story, they rely on characters which are too pure or too evil. The characters who are shades of gray interest me, and honestly make for better story narratives.
