Recent pathological studies of large numbers of patients diagnosed as having Parkinson's disease in life have highlighted the fact that at least one in ten of such cases have some other condition. Progressive Supranuclear Palsy is one of the commonest alternative diagnoses. This book is therefore a timely review of present understanding of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Much has been learnt about this sporadic illness of middle and late life although its cause remains unknown, and its treatment continues to be difficult. The Editors have selected a team of authors who review the clinical aspects, neuro-imaging find- ings, neuropathology, neurochemistry, epidemiology, and therapy of Progres- sive Supranuclear Palsy. All are to congratulated on producing an excellent and detailed picture of contemporary knowledge of the condition. Anyone interested in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy cannot do better than to start by reading this book. It is to be hoped that it will prompt further investigation to establish its cause and cure. C. D. MARSDEN, London Preface Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative disorder charac- terized clinically by the appearance of a supranuclear gaze palsy and extra- pyramidal features which include bradykinesia and axial dystonia. Postural instability and falls and frontal-type behavioural and cognitive disturbances complete the clinical picture of this progressive disorder.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51064298570001,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51064301289745,"sku":"NIN9783211825419","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52141549027601,"sku":"NLS9783211825419","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/321182541X.jpg?v=1750966641"},{"product_id":"current-topics-in-extrapyramidal-disorders-book-a-carlsson-9783709185841","title":"Current Topics in Extrapyramidal Disorders","description":"The scientific work of Walther Birkmayer is grounded on his ability to turn what was often a mass of clinical details into the basis for a hypothesis for a new therapeutic approach toward solving the problems of a patient's illness. Birkmayer first became known when, during the Second World War, he built up a clinic for brain injuries in Vienna, in which over 3000 patients were treated. The study of changes in the autonomic functions of the nervous system in these patients as well as the problems of rehabilitation were published in a monograph, Hirn- verletzungen. Consequently, this was his major scientific interest during the post-war years. His book, Klinik und Therapie der vegetativen Funktionsstorungen published with W. Winkler, brought Birkmayer recognition in the German-speaking world. In 1954 he took over the Neurological Department of the Geriatric Hospital of Vienna in Lainz, where he remained until his retirement in 1975. International acclaim followed his breakthrough with the clinical application of L-DOPA in Parkinson's disease. Birkmayer, as a strong adherent to the scientific interpretation of neurological and psychiatric disease, has encouraged multidisciplinary research. This is reflected in his establishment of the former Ludwig Boltzmann- Institute of Neurochemistry, in which pharmacological, biochemical and histopathological research into neuropsychiatric diseases was performed under one roof. Further to his initial work on L-DOPA, Birkmayer has been in the forefront of supplementary parkinsonian therapy using enzyme inhibitors: benserazide in 1967, unselective monoamine oxidase inhibitors in 1962 and deprenyl in 1975.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52124030697745,"sku":"NLS9783709185841","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783709185841.jpg?v=1757454988"},{"product_id":"neurovegetative-transmission-mechanisms-book-b-csillik-9783709183434","title":"Neurovegetative Transmission Mechanisms","description":"As a former president of the International Society for Neuro- vegetative Research and as a co-editor it is a pleasure to write a short introduction to the present volume which contains the proceedings of an international symposium, held at Tihany, Hungary, June 19-24, 1972, under the auspices of the Society mentioned above. Therefore, symposia of the Inter- national Society for Neurovegetative Reseanh are international forums where pure scientific work as well as clinical investigations and clinical experience can be discussed. EEG, clinical, pharmacological and genetic characteristics differ from those of convulsive or focal epilepsies. No underlying structural or biochemical abnormality has been identified for generalized absence seizures and the etiology of this disorder is unknown. It is unlikely that the precise pathophysiology of GNCE can be resolved in studies that focus on humans. Therefore a number of animal models reproducing the human disease have been developed. The aim of this supplementum is to characterize such models in rodents. First, recent models are extensively described. These include the genetic model of spontaneous GNCE in Strasbourg's Wistar rats and in tottering mice as well as bilateral spike and wave discharges induced by GHB, PTZ or GABA mimetics. Second, this supplementum will also provide very recent information on putative mechanisms underlying generalized absence seizures. Third, various experimental approaches aimed at investigating the neural substrate of this particular kind of epilepsy are described with various electrophysiological, pharmacological, biochemical, metabolic, ionic and molecular data. This supplementum provides an original multidisciplinary approach to the mechanisms involved in GNCE and demonstrates that rodent models are a promising tool which complements the classical feline penicillin model.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52127349276945,"sku":"NLS9783211823408","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211823408.jpg?v=1757485762"},{"product_id":"new-trends-in-the-diagnosis-and-therapy-of-non-alzheimers-dementia-book-kurt-a-jellinger-9783211828236","title":"New Trends in the Diagnosis and Therapy of Non-Alzheimers Dementia","description":"Provides an overview of the state-of-art on the classification, neuropathology, clinical presentation, neuropsychology, diagnosis, neuroimaging and therapeutic possibilities in non-Alzheimer's dementias.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52128061358353,"sku":"NLS9783211828236","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211828236.jpg?v=1757489401"},{"product_id":"studies-of-brain-metabolism-in-psychiatric-patients-can-standards-be-drawn-book-h-agren-9783211823460","title":"Studies of Brain Metabolism in Psychiatric Patients: Can Standards Be Drawn?","description":"Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has been used for a decade in psychiatric research to study regional brain glucose metabolism, and the results seem to be inconsistent. The various phases of his life and his career have been delineated recently by Youdim and Riederer (Journal of Neural Transmission; Suppl. 32, 1990). The articles included in this volume reflect a considerable range of current research work dealing with various aspects of neuropharmacology, i. e., the field of research Ullrich Trendelenburg has influenced most. One or more authors of each chapter are either former or present students and coworkers or close friends of Ullrich Trendelenburg. The first section is devoted to the synthesis and metabolism of catecholamines as well as to the mechanisms by which amine transmitters are removed from the extracellular fluid; three chapters deal with the two types of extraneuronal uptake of catecholamines. The second section concentrates on the release of catecholamines in the peripheral and the central nervous system, the regulation of transmitter release and the noradrenaline-ATP co-transmis- sion. The third section deals with the pharmacology of various receptors, including agrenoceptors, adenosine, 5-HT and glutamate receptors.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52143261679889,"sku":"NLS9783211823002","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211823002.jpg?v=1757583689"},{"product_id":"amine-oxidases-function-and-dysfunction-book-kf-tipton-9783211825211","title":"Amine Oxidases: Function and Dysfunction","description":"Monoamine oxidase plays a major role in the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric disorders including depressive illness, Parkinsons disease and Alzheimers disease. Obeso and his colleagues. These authors found that continuous s.c. infusion of lisuride, a watersoluble dopaminergic 8- -aminoergoline with dopaminergic properties which can be injected or infused, can improve - sometimes quite considerably - motor function in severely disabled fluctuating Parkinsonian patients. The concurrent use of the peripheral dopamine antagonist domperidone attenuates or prevents side effects related to the stimulation of peripheral dopamine receptors, including the chemoreceptor trigger zone and some areas of the hypothalamus outside the blood-brain barrier. The clinical results discussed in this volume may not only be a basis for further improvements in our knowledge and therapeutic strategies in Parkinsonism, they point to the so far neglected importance of different ways of stimulating neurological or other systems, e.g. discontinous, oscillatory effects caused by frequent oral application vs. continuous stimulation as described here with the lisuride s.c. infusion. Similar concepts have to be discussed and investigated in neurological disorders. In this respect, this multidisciplinary meeting and its publication may offer new ideas and concepts for therapy in general, in addition to its potential application in the treatment of the complications of Parkinson's disease.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52143586148625,"sku":"NLS9783211820346","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211820346.jpg?v=1757585132"},{"product_id":"advances-in-neuroscience-and-schizophrenia-book-ah-tuma-9783211823477","title":"Advances in Neuroscience and Schizophrenia","description":"Schizophrenia has been the subject of intense research interest in recent years, as investigators have explored the biological bases for the disorder and for various approaches to its diagnosis and treatment. In the second, Professors Goldmann-Rakic, Lewis, and Tassin discuss monoamine systems and their varied role in prefontal cortical circuitry and function. In the third, Professors Deutsch, Gerfen, and Grace discuss the structure, organization, and function of the basal ganglia, as they relate to schizophrenia and the mechanisms of neuroleptic action. The main topic of this conference was degenerative and age-associated neurological diseases. In recent decades life expectancy has dramatically increased, at least in the industrialized countries. This has led to extreme distortions of the so-called population pyramids that no longer look like such but begin to almost resemble cylinders. As a consequence of this overaging of the population, diseases that are associated with age have become much more common than before. It was thus more than reasonable to devote a congress of the CNS series to these important neurological diseases. The following fields of interest are covered: Age-associated memory impairment (AMI), Alzheimer's and other dementias, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, stroke and others. Concerning the de men- tias, some papers deal with diagnosis employing neuro-imaging methods such as MRI, CT, PET and SPECT, others using electrophysiological methods. An important aspect in the early preclinical diagnosis of dementia is the inclusion of neuropsychological tests to enhance the chance of effec- tive early treatment. Also drugs that are now under clinical investigation are discussed and preliminary results are presented.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52144480092433,"sku":"NLS9783211822616","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211822616.jpg?v=1757589131"},{"product_id":"deprenyl-past-and-future-book-wilfried-kuhn-9783211828915","title":"Deprenyl Past and Future","description":"Expert clinicians and basic scientists with a special interest in Parkinson's disease review the current state of science and clinical therapeutics of the disease. The present meeting is not an exception because we have gathered here in Wtirzburg to honour an individual whose outstanding work on the autonomic pharmacology has span- ned more than 30 years and whose contribution has made a vast impact in our understanding of the kinetic relationship between amine metabolism (that uptake and enzymatic inactivation) and adrenergic neurotransmission. We speak of course of Professor Ullrich Trendelenburg, or Ulli as he likes to be known. Like the amine oxidases, he has a unique place in Pharmacology. Professor Trendelenburg was born on the eve of the new year of 1922 in the city of Rostock in northern Germany, where his father was Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine of Rostock. His father accepted the offer to take over the corresponding chair in Freiburg im Breisgrau (in Southern Germany). Consequently the therapeutic actions of MAO-A and -B inhibitors in Parkinson’s disease (PK) and depression are the focus of several chapters. As MAO is the basis of the development of the \"oxidative stress hypothesis\" of PD, several chapters are devoted to iron and iron-induced oxidative stress in various experimental studies and clinical conditions. Based on these findings, new compounds have been developed which not only block MAO, but are in addition, either inhibitors of acetylcholine esterase or have iron chelating properties. The aspect of \"preclinical\" and \"clinical\" neuro protection as well as MAO neuroprotection are additional topics covered in this book. Thus, it was only in later years that the complexity ofparkinsonism and in particular Parkinson's disease with dementia was recognised. Cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease is common and is estimated to affect more than forty per cent of patients with disease onset after age 65. Recent studies suggest that pathology of Parkin- son's disease now ranks second to Alzheimer's disease as the commonest sub- strate of dementia in elderly patients. The condition is heterogeneous and there remain many complicated and unresolved questions concerning cause, diagnosis and classification. In an attempt to clarify these issues, scientists and members of the European Brain Bank Network (EBN) gathered in London for a meeting entitled Dementia in Parkinsonism. The resultant monograph is testimony to the wide-ranging clinical, morphological and biochemical aspects of this condition. Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia in the elderly people and Parkinson's disease is one of the major neurologic disorders with the prevalence between 1 and 2\/1 000 population in advanced countries. Many others are suffering from intractable neurodegener ative disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington's disease, or spinocerebellar degeneration. No truly effective treatment is available for any of these neurodegenerative disorders except for Parkinson's disease; even in Parkinson's disease, still it is impossible to slow down the disease process with the currently available treatment. It is urgently needed to develop new effective technique to halt or slow down the disease process in each of those disorders. Recent advance in the molecular biological and molecular genetic technique has brought us great progress in the understanding of etiology and pathogenesis of these disorders, but still it is not known how neurons are going to die in these disorders. As in previous meetings, we sought to choose topics that bridge the gap between basic neuroscience and the clinical fields of neurology and psychiatry. Consequently, the pro- ceedings published in this supplement cover a lot of ground. Late breaking data on various neuromodulator and neurotransmitter systems and their implications for the treatment of a number of disorders are reviewed. Jean- Charles Schwartz and colleagues set the stage with their paper on constitu- tive receptor activity, using the histamine H3-receptor to illustrate the point. The role of neuropeptides and neurotrophins in psychiatric disorders is then reviewed by Florian Holsboer, while Bill Deakin elucidates the role of sero- tonin, discovered 50 years ago in the brain, in select psychiatric syndromes. New pharmacological developments in the treatment of migraine, Parkin- son's disease and schizophrenia are then presented by Hans Christoph Diener, Eduardo Tolosa and Wolfgang Fleischhacker. In the end David Nutt and colleagues provide future directions in substance dependence research, linking the role of various transmitter systems with findings from neu- roimaging studies. In summary, there is no doubt that progress in the field of neuropsychopharmacology is exciting and the prospects of true advances in the treatment of brain disorders are very promising.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52616876163345,"sku":"NLS9783211839027","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211839027.jpg?v=1761528649"},{"product_id":"zentralnervose-sexualsteuerung-book-hans-orthner-9783709141588","title":"Zentralnervöse Sexualsteuerung","description":"Dieser Band enthalt die Referate und Vortrage der Jahrestagung 1969 der Deutschen Neurovegetativen Gesellschafi. By 2020 WHO statistics indicate that it will be the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in both the industrialised world and the underdeveloped world. The disease develops slowly over many years in the innermost layer of large and medium-sized arteries (Fig. 1) (Scott, 1995; Ross, 1999; Naumova and Scott, 2000; Glass and Witztum, 2001; Libby, 2001). It does not usually become manifest before the fourth of fifth decade, but then often strikes with devas- tating suddenness. Fifty per cent of individuals still die (25 per cent immedi- ately) from their first heart attack; and morbidity from coronary heart disease and stroke is very significant. The disease has a profound impact on health- care services and on industrial economies. The lesions of atherosclerosis Autopsy studies show that in humans atherosclerosis begins in the first and second decade of life. A similar disease can be produced in experimental animals, where diet and genetics can be manipulated to produce identical lesions. The earliest lesions are fatty streaks. These consist of an accumulation of lipid-engorged macrophages (foam cells) and T and B lymphocytes in the arterial intima. With time, the fatty streaks progress to intermediate lesions, composed of foam cells and smooth muscle cells.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52665987596561,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52665988776209,"sku":"NLS9783211838662","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211838662.jpg?v=1762278770"},{"product_id":"mao-the-mother-of-all-amine-oxidases-book-john-pm-finberg-9783211830376","title":"MAO - The Mother of all Amine Oxidases","description":"Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is linked to psychiatric and neurological disorders, because inhibitors of the enzyme are used clinically for treatment of affective disorders and Parkinson's disease. One of the interesting new aspects of MAO is the occurrence in the human population of deletions of genes coding for one or the other enzyme subtype (A or B). This leads to the possibility of a genetic basis for psychiatric disorders based on MAO. Subjects with deletions of type A or B, and combined deletions, have been described. In the first group of 6 papers in this book, the occurrence and characterization of these phenotypes, as well as the structure of MAO genes, is explored. Advances in the biochemistry of MAO subtypes and their physiological function and localization in brain and periphery is included. Other sections of the book deal with the neuroprotective action of MAO inhibitors and their pharmacology, especially the pharmacology of new MAO-B inhibitors.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52668318318865,"sku":"NLS9783211830376","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53649453449489,"sku":"NIN9783211830376","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211830376.jpg?v=1762284718"},{"product_id":"birth-life-and-death-of-dopaminergic-neurons-in-the-substantia-nigra-book-giuseppe-di-giovanni-9783709110928","title":"Birth, Life and Death of Dopaminergic Neurons in the Substantia Nigra","description":"This book provides a unique and timely multidisciplinary synthesis of our current knowledge of the anatomy, pharmacology, physiology and pathology of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) dopaminergic neurons. The single chapters, written by top scientists in their fields, explore the life cycle of dopaminergic neurons from their birth to death, the cause of Parkinson's disease, the second most common and disabling condition in the elderly population. Nevertheless, the intracellular cascade of events leading to dopamine cell death is still unknown and, consequently, treatment is symptomatic rather than preventive. The mechanisms by which alterations cause neuronal death, new therapeutic approaches and the latest evidence of a possible de novo neurogenesis in the SNc are reviewed and singled out in different chapters. This book bridges basic science and clinical practice and will prepare the reader for the next few years, which will surely be eventful in terms of the progress of dopamine research.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52668473835793,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52668474392849,"sku":"NLS9783709110928","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783709110928.jpg?v=1762285113"},{"product_id":"advances-in-research-on-neurodegeneration-book-werner-poewe-9783211832615","title":"Advances in Research on Neurodegeneration","description":"th From November 20 to 23, 1997 the 6 International Winter Conference on Neurodegeneration was held in Kitzbtihel, Austria, to explore recent ad- vances in the treatment of neurodegenerative and neuroimmunological CNS diseases. Following the tradition of the previous conferences a select group of distinguished basic researchers and clinicians spent two days in the quiet Austrian mountain resort with in depth review and discussion of current topics in the fields of neurodegeneration and neuroimmunology focussing on the interface between these two groups of disorders. The main focus was on how to develop new treatment strategies based on current understandings in the molecular biology of maturation of the nervous system and of basic processes governing neurodegenerative disorders, like Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, Huntington's disease and amyotrophic lateral scle- rosis as well as CNS demyelination in multiple sclerosis. Starting from classical concepts of symptomatic dopamine replacement therapy in Parkinson's dis- ease, state-of-the-art lectures covered new evolving therapeutic concepts for neurodegenerative disorders: somatic gene therapy, neural transplantation and neuroprotection through pharmacological treatment as well as through deep brain stimulation. The emphasis on restoration as key feature of future neurological therapy was also highlighted in a session on mechanisms of demyelination and strate- gies for myelin repair in neurological autoimmune disease. The present volume includes updated review articles and original papers th covering the proceedings of the 6 International Winter Conference.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52669675864337,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52669676716305,"sku":"NLS9783211832615","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211832615.jpg?v=1762287985"},{"product_id":"advances-in-research-on-neurodegeneration-book-p-riederer-9783211828984","title":"Advances in Research on Neurodegeneration","description":"The 8th International Winter Conference on Neurodegeneration from Febru- ary 9 to 13, 2000 took place in Tegernsee, Bavaria, Germany. This time especially basic mechanism of cell death and resulting causal treatment possibilities were centre themes of the lectures and lively discussions. In accordance with tradi- tion 5 lectures on Multiple Sclerosis finished the convention. 60 scientists from 13 countries discussed current questions to these themes. The Symposium started with a lecture on the history of the develop- ment of modern-L-DOPA-therapy. Lectures on cell death of dopaminergic nerve cells, new valuation regarding assembly, built up and function of neuromelanin of Substantia nigra and with this, the question of the physio- logic and pathobiochemical role of dopamine and neuromelanin built the first block of themes which consequently extended to molecular and genetic aspects of cell death. Highlights of the symposium were neuroprotective and neuroregenerative future therapy strategies together with discussions on the difficulties of clinical neuroprotection. Developmental biological aspects on nerve cells, reorganisation and neurodegeneration showed a stimulating point of view of momentary and future development possibilities of new and more causal forms of therapy of neurodegenerative illness.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52671069552913,"sku":"NLS9783211828984","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211828984.jpg?v=1762291362"},{"product_id":"molecular-biology-of-down-syndrome-book-g-lubec-9783211833773","title":"The Molecular Biology of Down Syndrome","description":"This book contains updated reviews and original research work on Down Syndrome focussing on brandnew results in neurobiology, in particular results on gene hunting (subtractive hybridization, differential display) and neurochemistry. The book provides new data such as a subtractive library of Down Syndrome brain showing cDNAs that are overexpressed or downregulated and can be regarded as a source for further research on the preliminary transcriptional data given. A 2D-electrophoretic map of human brain proteins including Down Syndrome brain protein expression established by in-gel-digestion of spots with subsequent MALDI-identification provides the scientific basis for protein work to the neuroscientist. Altogether, the book provides a series of new candidate genes possibly involved in Down Syndrome neurobiology, tools for neuroscience studies on Down Syndrome brain thus serving as a manual and updated views and aspects on Down Syndrome pathobiology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52680305443089,"sku":"NLS9783211833773","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211833773.jpg?v=1762312791"},{"product_id":"alzheimers-disease-from-basic-research-to-clinical-applications-book-hermann-j-gertz-9783211831120","title":"Alzheimers Disease - From Basic Research to Clinical Applications","description":"As human longevity continues to be extended, so will the impact of age-associated dementia on individual lives and society. Alzheimer's disease as the most common cause of dementia in the elderly remains a sentinal problem and its underlying pathology is still poorly understood. Available therapeutic strategies require considerable refinement and the development of new therapeutic strategies need input from basic research. Thus continued efforts are necessary both to understand basic mechanisms of the condition and to achieve more powerfull therapies. This volume brings together the reports of basic scientists and clinical investigators. The chapters provide a spectrum of information valuable for clinicians and scientists. This issue bridges the gap between laboratory work in basic science and the development of urgently needed therapeutic strategies. Areas presented are the molecular and cellular biology of the disease, pathogenetic mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets, genetics, risk factors, strategies of prevention and treatment as well as practical aspects of medical and social care for patients with Alzheimer's disease.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52680978596113,"sku":"NLS9783211831120","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52760929927441,"sku":"NIN9783211831120","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783211831120.jpg?v=1762314441"},{"product_id":"advances-in-research-on-neurodegeneration-book-p-riederer-9783211835371","title":"Advances in Research on Neurodegeneration","description":"The 8th International Winter Conference on Neurodegeneration from Febru- ary 9 to 13, 2000 took place in Tegernsee, Bavaria, Germany.
