Is it monopolised by fundamentalists, or of such a minority interest that it doesn't belong in the New Testament? This study guide introduces the text anew by a series of thematic readings. The text is seen to deal with essential themes-God and Christ, the Church in the World, Creation and the end of the Universe, Politics and Rival Powers, and the Future Hope. Special attention is paid to the living traditions within which Revelation is interpreted, including art, literature and music. Not only does this guide seek to orientate the reader within the whole range of the text and its traditions; it also focusses discussion in three substantial chapters dealing in turn with the key literary, historical, and theological issues raised. How can one describe Revelation's literary character? From what historical and social context did it come? What are its abiding theological values and doctrines? This study is set in the context of modern approaches to the biblical text and is supported by selected bibliographies and recommendations for further reading.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ LIKE_NEW \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49579043782929,"sku":"GOR013591382","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49581378273553,"sku":"GOR005263071","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52544461766929,"sku":"NLS9781850757054","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1850757054.jpg?v=1751986716"},{"product_id":"romans-book-robert-morgan-9781850757399","title":"Romans","description":"Anyone who tries to read through Paul's epistle to the Romans soon discovers it is a dense and difficult text. It seeks to show the issues facing those who seek to study Ephesians or interpret it. The first part examines in detail the normal questions of authorship and destination. The second offers a brief survey of the content of the letter drawing out its main points. The third part concentrates attention on its theology, treating in detail its teaching about the church and behaviour. In this it is claimed that these two areas of life together in the Christian community and conduct within it reflect on one another and influence each other; in that sense the letter is a unity of thought. While an attempt is made to solve the problems which present themselves, for example whether, the author was not Paul but a disciple, there is no suggestion that the writer's own solutions are the only possible ones.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52538512245009,"sku":"NLS9781850757160","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781850757160.jpg?v=1760682177"},{"product_id":"james-new-testament-guides-book-john-s-kloppenborg-9780567481405","title":"James (New Testament Guides)","description":"Like other volumes in the New Testament Guides series, James offers a concise and accessible introduction to a New Testament text, in this case aimed specifically at undergraduate-level students. They show how, in tackling the difficulties that he faces in Galatia, Paul offers a vision of what the Galatians are in their relationship with the living Christ. This offers a new understanding of the concept of unity in diversity expressed in Gal 3:28.  The authors develop their views over six chapters. First, Oakes maps a route from the letter to a focus on its Galatian hearers and on Paul’s vision for their identity and existence. In the next chapter, Oakes uses the Christology of Galatians as a way to support the idea of pistis as current relationship with the living Christ. Boakye then offers three chapters analysing the letter’s scriptural quotations and ideas about salvation and law. Boakye sees a key dynamic at work in Galatians as being a movement from death to life, as prophesied metaphorically by Ezekiel and as made literal for Paul in his encounter with the resurrected Christ, trust in whom becomes the route to life. Life becomes a key category for evaluating law. Boakye also draws Galatians close to Romans 4 in seeing in both texts the promise of the birth of Isaac, with Paul closely tying that to the resurrection of Jesus. Oakes then argues that the letter has a thematic concern for unity in diversity. In the first instance this is between Jews and gentiles but, in principle, it is between any other socially significant pair of groups.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53088695812369,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53088695877905,"sku":"NLS9780567074966","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9780567074966.jpg?v=1770075956"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/en-au\/collections\/new-testament-guides-book-series.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
