Keith Jones was born in Shrewsbury. He read English and then the Part 2 Theology course at Selwyn College, Cambridge in the 1960s and was trained for the priesthood at Cuddesdon College, while Robert Runcie was principal. In 1996 he was appointed Dean of Exeter. He was made Dean of York in 2004 and has made a priority of developing strong participation by York Minster in the life of the city and the diocese.
