Africa Praying by Musa W Dube

How should the church and its leaders deal with the origin and meaning of HIV/AIDS, and with the stigma it engenders? How should they address the needs of those affected, and minister to the infected? This resource book is designed for all who have to handle situations created by this relatively new epidemic -- church leaders/workers, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, the laity. It seeks to equip the church leader/worker with strategies to break the silence and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, creating a compassionate and healing church. And it seeks to help [them] by underlining how the Christian faith calls us to serve and to heal Gods world and people. The five sections give sermon guidelines and worship outlines for services ranging from weddings to funerals; such key moments of the churchs year as Christmas and Easter; attitudes of compassion or discrimination; congregations peopled by youth or grandparents; and social realities like poverty and gender inequality.
Musa W Dube is Senior Lecturer on the New Testament in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Botswana. She serves as the chair of biblical studies research in the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians, from which this volume originates. The Circle is a Pan-African society that promotes research, writing and publishing in the area of religion and theology by African women in and outside Africa.
