Against Equality by Ryan Conrad
This collection reinvigorates the queer political imagination with contemporary radical voices critical of the gay community's uncritical investment in single-issue 'equality' politics. Centred on the holy trinity of gay marriage, gays in the military and hate crime legislation, Against Equality is a nuanced and honest appraisal of the effects of three decades of neoliberalism on a once-liberatory social movement.Ryan Conrad is a central Maine-based artist, activist, and academic. In 2009, he and Yasmin Nair co-founded Against Equality, and he is currently completing an interdisciplinary doctorate in Sexuality Studies at Concordia University in Montréal.
