The Alaska Cruise Handbook by Joe Upton

Award-winning author and mapmaker Joe Upton spent twenty years exploring the Northwest coast as a commercial fisherman and journalist, collecting stories, taking photos, making maps, and catching fish. In this book, which has more than 300 color photos and a large illustrated map, Upton has assembled all the information you need for your Alaska cruise.

Included is detailed information on excursions, wildlife, walks, ports of call, cruise planning tips, where to look for whales, and much more. This guide is immensely popular because, in addition to being full of information, it also features Joe's wonderful stories.

Readers may explore Alaska before their cruise through Joe's videos. The map has links to short videos featuring Alaska stops and Joe's stories that can be found on a companion website, www.alaskacruisehandbook.com.

Upton, Joe: -

Traveling Northwest waters as a commercial fisherman since 1965 in small craft and large, Joe Upton gained intimate knowledge of the coast from Puget Sound to the Arctic Circle.

In the 1970s, Upton lived and fished out of a tiny roadless island fishing community in Southeast Alaska. His first book, Alaska Blues, based on those years, was hailed as One of those books you want to proclaim a classic, by the Seattle PI.

In 1995, Upton started Coastal Publishing, to produce illustrated maps and guidebooks for Alaska cruise passengers. In 2010, he began working with film maker and commercial fishermen Dan Kowalski to film many of the stories that he had heard over the years.

Upton lives with his wife on Bainbridge Island, WA and Vinalhaven Island, ME.
