Friedewald studied art history, theatre studies, and education after graduating from the Rudolph Steiner school in Bochum. Friedewald created the Freyer Ensemble after graduating with an MA and working as a dramaturge for Achim Freyer and others. In Berlin, he worked as a temporary art and theatre history instructor. Friedewald has written various artist biographies as well as art history studies on the Bauhaus and photography.
He was on the Board of Trustees of the Bauhaus in Calcutta exhibition in 2013. He is based in Berlin and works there.
