Art & Print: The Curwen Story by Alan Powers
The Curwen Press, set up by the Reverend John Curwen in 1863, was initially concerned with printing sheet music, but made its name in the early 20th century as a printer of superb quality limited edition books. This title charts the history of publishing and print-making at Curwen.
Alan Powers studied art history at Cambridge, and was involved in printmaking and print publishing in the 1980s. His own prints included the series Seaside Lithographs, 1986, drawn and printed at the Curwen Studio. More recently, he has published widely on twentieth century British art, architecture and design and he is currently Chairman of the Twentieth Century Society and Professor of Architecture and Cultural History at the University of Greenwich.
