Jacob Bronowski was born in Poland in 1908. Subsequently, his family settled in Britain and he was educated at Cambridge University where he became a Fellow of Jesus College. Dr Bronowski moved to the United States in 1964 on taking up a senior post at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego, California. He died in 1974.
