Michael Basman began playing chess at the age of ten and hasn't stopped since. He has competed in several Olympic Games and won the British Chess Championships in 1973. He has dedicated his time to teaching schoolchildren since becoming an International Master in 1981, and in 1996, he founded the UK Schools' Chess Challenge, an annual event that attracts thousands of new players each year.
