BISENTIENT by Patrick O'connor
Rated 4.9/5 stars on Goodreads. For fans of Dark Matter, The X-Files, and Robin Cook.
Something is wrong with reality.
Cameraman Mason Plater takes a routine job at a psychiatric hospital. A chance encounter with a comatose patient leaves him shaken - and haunted by dreams he can't explain. Dreams that feel more real than waking life. Dreams where someone is waiting for him.
He isn't alone in noticing.
In the United States, a charismatic church leader is rising rapidly through politics - while secretly overseeing the construction of a strange machine deep inside a disused military base. A machine that shouldn't exist. A machine that nobody can explain.
In the UK, a senior government minister is torn between his public duty and his loyalty to a clandestine global organisation that has existed for centuries - one sworn to protect humanity from a threat too dangerous to reveal.
And in a secret Home Office laboratory, two young technicians stumble onto something that will put their lives in danger: coma patients are being implanted with experimental devices. The question is why.
As Mason's world begins to unravel, the threads connect. The church. The machine. The dreams. The ancient order of occultists hunting him. And behind it all - a centuries-old alien intelligence quietly manipulating human society, preparing for something none of them can stop.
The race is on. But Mason doesn't yet know what he's racing against.
BISENTIENT is a cinematic, fast-paced conspiracy thriller that weaves government cover-ups, secret societies, medical mystery, and ancient alien threat into a breathless, chapter-ending-cliffhanger page-turner.
