Bon Courage! by Richard Wiles
A dilapidated, rat-infested stone barn set amongst 13 acres of overgrown woodland may not be everyone's vision of a dream home. For English couple Richard and Al, however, the cavernous, oak-beamed building in a sleepy hamlet of the French Limousin region is perfect.
Richard Wiles is a professional author and editor. He gained his knowledge of home renovation from a career on Do It Yourself, Homemaker and Ideal Home magazines, and partworks Jobmate, Do It Right and Fix It, later establishing himself as one of the UK's foremost DIY columnists, contributing to Traditional Homes and Period Living magazines. He has written and edited more than a dozen home interest books. His connection with France began in the 1990s, when he bought a 13-acre farm in the Limousin region, renovated its rundown barn and kept llamas - the subject of his bestselling humorous travel books, Bon Courage! (Summersdale 2003/13) and Bonne Chance! (Summersdale 2006). He offered practical advice to ex-pats in articles for Living France, Everything France, Destination France, Homes Overseas, Living Abroad, and The Connexion. His Dictionary of French Building Terms (Summersdale 2006) is a best seller. He is now renovating a ramshackle hill-top property in the beautiful Lot department, where he is writing La Source!, third book in his travel series.
