Reflecting critically on the current condition of museums and their possible futures, Stephen E. From 1974 to 1995, he was the deputy director of the Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and before that, he was the administrator of the Whitney Museum of African Art. He is the author of Smithsonian Institution Press's Rethinking the Museum and Other Meditations (1990) and Beauty and the Beasts (1983), as well as writer of other scholarly treatises on art and law.
