Cardiac Emergencies by Jim Nolan
A pocket guide to the management of acute cardiac problems, for hospital use. It is developed from the existing Guidelines for the Management of Acute Cardiac Problems used by 'Jimmy's' hospital in Leeds. It provides accessible, universally acceptable guidelines in this area of patient care.Booknews
Very concise yet comprehensive book. Covers all the main areas the critical care students need on cardiac problems.'
Marc Cornoch, Principal Lecturer, Institute of Hea
Nolan and colleagues have produced an informative, up to date, and evidence based guide to the management of common cardiac conditions. The book is concise, readable, well referenced, and makes good use of key points to emphasise important aspects of management. It provides clear 'how to do it' guidelines that will educate the novice and reassure the mature. Overall, I would recommend this book to any junior physician looking after general medical patients and it has a place within the A&E department for those times when the cardiologists are slow to answer their pagers.
Journal of Accident and Emergency Medicine
For a pocket guide, this publication is remarkably comprehensive yet succinct. Each chapter is laid out in a set pattern with paragraphs on the bakground, the meat of the chapter, a highlighted summary of the key points and a bibliography of important publications related to the subject. The book is written in concise and excellent English. I found this book to be a valuable contribution and I would recommend it to the wide spectrum of the profession who are likely to have to manage a cardiac emergency.
Resuscitation
A superb book to have on any medical ward, in a coronary care unit or in an A&E department. It will serve well as a reference for specialist nurses, for doctors embarking on their careers and for more senior doctors wishing to bring themselves up to date.
Cambridge Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine
This book must be welcomed as an informative text, which utilizes evidence-based medicine to guide the clinical management of cardiac emergencies.
Accident and Emergency Medicine
In 1939, John Greenwood (1921-2014) enlisted in the Royal Air Force. He saw action in both the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain during the Second World War. Throughout the course of these two conflicts, he was credited with five and a half victories. By any standard, this is an amazing total, yet he was one of the few aces who never received a DFC. The late author's family has given their entire support to this autobiography, which is being published for the first time by Pen and Sword Publications. It is anticipated that its release will bring attention to an underappreciated ace and allow him to receive the credit he deserves.
