Children Excluded from Primary School by Hayden
There can be no more serious sanction taken against a child of primary school age than exclusion from school. This book explores the policy context in which exclusions are happening and presents evidence from a two year, ESRC funded national research project on the issue.
"..an essential contribution to the scholarship of ordinary people's education, exposing how far down into the roots of the state education system the poison of exclusion has flowed." - Education Today & Tomorrow "...fascinating, important and highly readable book." - Journal of Emotional & Behavioural Difficulties "The book is fascinating and illuminating reading for anyone working within primary education." -Education Today "Anyone interested in the problem of school exclusion, whether at primary or secondary level, should read Carol Hayden's provocative and insightful book." - British Journal of Educational Studies
Carol Hayden was a teacher in mainstream schools for some ten years before taking up a research appointment at the SSRIU (Social Services Research and Information Unit) at the University of Portsmouth in 1989. Her own two children were of primary school age during the period of field research.
