Martin Mason and Malcolm Sanders first met at infant school in 1947. Their common interest in architecture and history led to the publication, in 1994, of their first book, The City Companion, a combination of topographical, illustrative and descriptive studies of the older parts of the City of London that still remain. Martin Mason is an architect and studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. Malcolm Sanders, who drew the illustrations, based on photographs by Martin Mason, is also the calligrapher for the book. He is an interior designer and studied at the Central School of Art and Design. Both have grown-up families.
