Company by Stephen Sondheim
Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's iconic musical comedy about life, love and marriage.
Often considered the first 'concept musical', Company comprises several short vignettes about Robert - single but surrounded by married friends - which unfold in no particular chronological order, but are all tied together by a surprise 35th birthday party.
Company opened on Broadway in April 1970, at the Alvin Theatre, in a production directed by Hal Prince. It was nominated for a record-setting fourteen Tony Awards and won six, including Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
The first West End production opened in January 1972, at Her Majesty's Theatre.
