Complete Potters Companion by Tony Birks
Second revised edition of a pottery handbook for beginner and experienced potters, providing instructions for making, decorating, glazing and firing thrown, hand-built and cast or moulded pottery, including paper clay, glazes, firings and kilns. A suppliers' list and glossary is included and gallery spreads present the work of modern potters.
Tony Birks trained at the Slade School of Art in London as a sculptor and potter and has many years experience of teaching and working in ceramics. His first book The Art of the Modern Potter changed attitudes to ceramics on both sides of the Atlantic. His other books include the biographies of Bernard Leach, Hamada and their circle, Lucie Rie, Hans Coper and Claudi Casanovas.
