From Henry Miller, who wrote a glowing monograph on the book, to world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli, who wrote a song about it, this simple tale of childhood has inspired all kinds of people and continues to do so today.Edmondo De Amicis was born on October 21, 1846, in Imperia, and died on March 11, 1908, in Bordighera. He attended school in Cuneo and later the Lyzeum in Turin. He entered the Academia militare di Modena at the age of 16 and was promoted to Offizier. After leaving the Heer, he was dispatched to Florenz by the daily newspaper La Nazione and participated in the Eroberung of Rome in 1870. Around this time, he wrote his travel books.
