The Dispatches and Letters of Lord Nelson by Viscount Horatio Nelson Nelson
Horatio Nelson was a vivid and frank letter writer and his collection of letters has been compared with those of Pepys, Byron and Keats. The one edition of these letters was first published between 1844 and 1846 and is here reprinted in seven volumes. Volume I covers the period 1777 to 1794 which includes Nelson's service in the American Revolutionary War and the war with France in the Mediterranean, where he first met Emma Hamilton, and suffered his famous wound, the loss of his eye at the siege of Calvi.
"This is the stuff of history as it was being made, written by the brilliant, complex man who was making it" Tom Pockock
