Easy as Pi by Jamie Buchan

Jamie Buchan, a former Queen's Scholar at Westminster School and now a student at the University of Edinburgh, has always been fascinated with numbers, both mathematically and culturally. He is a great-grandson of John Buchan (first Lord Tweedsmuir), a writer and statesman whose classic thrillers, including The Thirty-Nine Steps and Greenmantle, have been bestsellers for decades; The Thirty-Nine Steps has been filmed three times, most notably by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935, starring Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll. He is the nephew of James Buchan, a well-known novelist, and Ursula Buchan, a gardening writer and journalist. He is also related to popular novelist Elizabeth Buchan.
