Election Fever by Alan Parkinson
Elections in Northern Ireland have long been unique in their political and constitutional magnitude, the melodramatic nature of the campaigns and the consequences of their outcomes. This book provides an overview of elections in Northern Ireland since the early twentieth century and the ways in which they were reported in the Belfast press.
Dr Alan F. Parkinson is a former teacher and university history lecturer. Belfast-born, his research interests cover areas as diverse as modern Irish political history, the social history of London, the nature of political propaganda, the history of schools and their communities and educational research. His publications include 1972 and the Ulster Troubles (2010), Friends in High Places: Ulster’s Resistance to Irish Home Rule, 1912–14 (2012), and Charlie Chaplin’s South London (2008). Now retired and living in Devon, Alan Parkinson continues to be involved in research projects both in London and Northern Ireland.
