You'll be glad you did!
Kay Thompson (1909-1998) worked in many MGM musicals throughout the 1940s as a vocalist, dancer, vocal arranger, and coach. Ms Thompson created the Eloise persona by imitating the voice of a precocious six-year-old to entertain her friends. When Eloise was released in 1955, Kay Thompson became a literary phenomenon after collaborating with Hilary Knight on an instant bestseller. To far, more than two million copies of the book have been sold. Eloise in Paris, Eloise at Christmas, Eloise in Moscow, and Eloise Takes a Bawth are four further Eloise books written by Kay Thompson and Hilary Knight.
Hilary Knight, the son of artist-writers Clayton Knight and Katharine Sturges, studied with Reginald Marsh at the Art Students League. In addition to the Eloise books, Hilary Knight has illustrated over fifty children's books, six of which he wrote himself. He lives and works near The Plaza Hotel in New York City.
