Christopher Hibbert was born in 1924 and attended Radley College and Oxford University. The Rise and Fall of the House of Medici, The English: A Social History, and Cavaliers and Roundheads are among his many recognized works. In addition, he has authored 'biographies' of London, Rome, and Venice, as well as biographies of Samuel Johnson, Elizabeth I, and Napoleon and his women.
