Evader by Denys Teare
On the 5th September 1943, Denys Teare baled out of his burning Lancaster bomber seconds before it crashed into a hillside in Occupied France. For the next twelve months Teare was a wanted man - an evader in the midst of the enemy. Teare's story is an outstanding picture of life in France under the Nazis, of the danger and the horror before the liberation, and of what liberation really meant when at last it came. This is not just the story of those who fought and survived, it is also the story of those who were not so lucky, and does not shy away from the often harrowing fate of innocent civilians caught-up in the madness of war and enemy occupation.
