EXTRACT FROM DIGEST OF SERVICE OF THE 2nd BATTALION THE P.O.W. OWN (WEST YORKSHIRE REGT.) IN SOUTH AFRICA by Anon

This book is a rarity: a detailed battalion log of a Regular Army unit in the Boer War. The 2nd West Yorkshire Regiment - the Prince of Wales' Own - was in South Africa throughout most of the war - from October 1899 to August 1902 - and took part in some fierce fighting. The log gives an excellent impression of the battalion's activities - on the march, in camp, in action and on garrison duty. With a nominal roll of casualties, this will be of absorbing interest to all Boer War buffs.
The writer has chosen to stay anonymous because the poems reflect a universal journey. The author lays no claim to the thoughts as they are part of the collective unconsciousness that binds living things together. The compilation portrays how poetry can be a person's best friend, philosopher, and guide throughout his/her life.
