Father Tom by Billy Fitzgerald

Cardinal Tomas O Fiaich, Primate of All Ireland and Archbishop of Armagh, died whilst leading his diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes in May 1990. In this portrait the author tells the story of the Cardinal's life and ministry. Father Tom was a scholar of Irish history and spent many years at the Maynooth Seminary where he eventually became president. From here he was appointed to the See of Armagh. In the tense situation of Northern Ireland the Cardinal struggled in his role as peacemaker but others saw him as a defender of violence. This book paints a picture of a multi-faceted man ending with an account of the Cardinal's funeral in Armagh.
