Experience the blazing, surreal sensation of a fever dream...
A young woman named Amanda lies dying in a rural hospital clinic. A boy named David sits beside her. She's not his mother. He's not her child. Together, they tell a haunting story of broken souls, toxins, and the power and desperation of family.
Fever Dream is a nightmare come to life, a ghost story for the real world, a love story and a cautionary tale. One of the freshest new voices to come out of the Spanish language and translated into English for the first time, Samanta Schweblin creates an aura of strange psychological menace and otherworldly reality in this absorbing, unsettling, taut novel.
Samanta Schweblin is the author of Fever Dream, a Man Booker International Award finalist and her first novel to be translated into English. Granta named her one of the twenty-two best Spanish writers under the age of 35, and she is on the Bogotá39-2017 list. Her pieces have won multiple accolades in Spanish, including the famous Juan Rulfo Story Award, and have appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's, and other publications in English. She has had her work translated into twenty different languages. Megan McDowell was born in Buenos Aires and now lives in Berlin. She has translated works by many current South American and Spanish authors, and her work has appeared in journals such as The New Yorker, Harper's, The Paris Review, McSweeney's, Words Without Borders, and Vice. She is a Chilean citizen.
