Established in 1903, Aberdeen FC ran for 43 years before a trophy was acquired. However in 1978, the arrival of Alex Ferguson meant the transformation of a provincial Scottish club into the number one team in Europe. For eight years Aberdeen FC was the dominant force in Scotland, culminating in the club's greatest victory in Gothenburg when the Dons took on the greatest club name in the world, Real Madrid, and won the European Cup Winners' Cup. This was capped when Aberdeen took on Hamburg and won the Supercup. The Golden Age of Fergie may have come and gone but the story rolls on regardless, with new dramas unfolding as we reach the centenary year, happily coinciding with the 20th anniversary of The European triumphs.
