He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE, and the IET, where he is also a Vice President, and a Visiting Professor at Surrey University and De Montfort University. He is the Series Editor for the Cambridge Wireless Essentials book series produced by Cambridge University Press, and he has previously published ten books, 80 papers, and four patents. His professional experience includes hardware design, computer simulation, propagation modeling, spectrum management, and strategy creation for a variety of communication consultancies.
