Emanuel Levy (Ph.D., Columbia) is an Arizona State University West tenured professor of film and sociology. He has taught film at Columbia University, Wellesley College, and the New School for Social Research in the past. Dr. Levy is the author of six cinema books, the most recent of which is George Cukor, Master of Elegance (William Morrow), the authoritative biography of the famous Hollywood director. The first chronicle of the American independent film wave, Cinema of Outsiders: The New American Independent Film Wave, will be released by NYU Press in 1999. Dr. Levy is the head of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and a film critic for Variety.
